Top 6 must-have shoes for your winter wardrobe

Must have shoes for your winter wardrobe

By Renate Engelbrecht

As I am constantly looking at how I can simplify my wardrobe, I recently looked into which shoes are a must for a winter wardrobe. With some guidance from Freequency Footwear at Menlyn Maine in Pretoria, I have identified six pairs of shoes that I believe will make mixing and matching outfits much easier and way more fun this winter.

Chunky boots

For many of us (including me) the chunky boot style is one that takes some getting used to. It’s bold. Very bold. Yet, when it’s coupled with the right outfit, it can look stylish while keeping up with the trends.

There are various options when it comes to chunky boots too. Whether you prefer bold, black chunky boots, or cream-coloured chunky ankle boots, a pair of these will undoubtedly work wonders for your wardrobe this winter.

These fun chunky tan boots, for example, can be worn with both a maxi dress and with jeans (and probably a whole list of other fashionable outfits).

Mules or Pumps

Ballet pumps or mules are a must for your wardrobe this winter. They are fit for almost any occasion and bring a bit of playful elegance while also ensuring comfort.

These cute pumps are special as they come with snakeskin detail, adding a feel of luxury to what we often consider to be a simple shoe.

Black boot

I believe having both a tan and a black boot in your wardrobe is a must. If you can, having both ankle boots and long boots can open up a world of wardrobe options. But, for now, consider investing in a classic long black boot like this one as it is sure to be in fashion for years to come and you can mix and match it with numerous trendy outfits. These black boots are also great to have at hand in a transitional wardrobe as you transition from summer to winter or vice versa. Long black boots like these can be combined with classical floral dresses just as well as with fashionable, check mini skirts.

Heels – Shoes for every season

If there was one shoe in my wardrobe I could call a multi-use shoe, it is a classic heel. A classic heel – whether it’s in black or in tan – can help you dress almost any outfit up instantly. With these, a quick shoe change can change your whole outfit in a matter of minutes.

Sneakers

They say white sneakers are a must, but these sneakers prove that white does not have to be the only option. Bulky is best in this instance and seeing that dopamine dressing is a huge fashion trend following the global Covid-19 pandemic, adding a pair of bold sneakers to you list of wardrobe must-haves is inevitable. If you’ve been looking for a pair of feel-good shoes, look no further.

Colourful shoes for good measure

Speaking of feel-good shoes… The sixth option is certainly a welcome one. While we’ve been hammering on classical shoes that will stand the test of time and focusing on shoes that will fit with most outfits, having one pair of shoes that have a unique, colourful boldness that portray your personality is not a bad idea.

Shoes like these will give you the confidence you need to take on the world, one step at a time. Literally. Dare to be bold and bright this winter. Choose shoes that showcase your personality and wear them with pride.

P.S. While we’re talking shoes…

In addition to the above six must-have shoes, opting for a tan ankle boot might be another great investment to make this winter. Depending on your style and personality (or just your phase of life, like being a mom) you can decide whether you want flat, chunky boots or fancy point-toed boots with heels. These ones had my name on them, although they are not always ideal for a mom of two toddlers. Still, for editorial meetings and wine events, they are the perfect fit. They work with jeans, tights, skirts and dresses and instantly glam up any outfit.

The above shoes are all available at Freequency Footwear. You can get 15% discount on your purchase by using the discount code, SUITCASEANDCHARDONNAY in store.

Happy shopping!
