Meet the Housewives of the Winelands
Amy Kleinhans-Kurd, Mariska Thorpe, Karen Schwendtke, Candice Bester, Michelle van Zyl and Anita Lloyd will open the doors to their luxurious houses, their hearts and their lives to viewers across the country.
Amy Kleinhans-Curd
Amy is married to New Zealand businessman, Leighton Curd. She is a mother of four and lives in Franschhoek. She is the director of various companies, including the homework hotline, Dial-A-Teacher, which was founded in 2000 in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Fund. In addition to this, their farms in Franschhoek, Swellendam and the Cradle of Humankind keep her on her toes. She will also soon be launching her own Cap Classique, as well as a skin range called Amelia (her birthname). Amy is a committed mom and organises a swimming festival, among other things, for the school her children attend.
Mariska Thorpe
Mariska worked as a wealth manager for many years. Together with her husband, Quintus and their daughter, Ocean, she lives in the same Franschhoek-based estate than Amy. Sheโs not one to sit sill. She and Quintus are stock traders, but she also runs a business that up-cycles second-hand clothes. They are both also avid trail runners and she is a perfectionist in everything she does.
Karen Schwendtke
This housewife lives in Val de Vie Estate between Paarl and Franschhoek. She is a successful businesswoman who holds a BCom Accounting degree from the University of Pretoria, an MBL from UNISA and a degree in Visual Basic Programming from Harvard in America. Sheโs obviously a busy woman, but she also makes time for charity projects. In times of national need, she helped with the supply of water and cattle feed. Children are also dear to her heart and she is involved in fundraising for CHOC (Childhood Cancer Foundation SA). She is mom to two daughters, Saskia and Arabella.
Candice Bester
Candice lives in the Aan de Weber Estate in Stellenbosch. She is married to Werner and has a daughter called Emma. Candice is an experienced professional singer, but she left the stage for the corporate world where she works as marketing manager of Quench, which was acquired by the TFG Group. She still dreams about a future as singer, though. In addition, she likes to play golf, has a big collection of whiskies and she also facilitates a monthly quiz night. Plus, she and Werner are in the process of opening a restaurant!
Michelle van Zyl
This medical doctor specialised in trauma and later had a successful general medical practice. Nowadays, she is an aesthetic doctor who focuses on treatments like Botox. She lives in the Boskloof Eco Estate in Somerset West with her husband, Dr. Andrรฉ Olivier and together they have two children, Hanno and Heidi. Andrรฉ also has two sons from a previous marriage who now live in Namibia. Michelle enjoys hosting and dreams of having her own TV Talk Show.
Anita Lloyd
Based just outside of Paarl in a beautiful valley, Anita and her husband Boyce are high school sweethearts. She gave up her profession as teacher to support Boyce in his career, which took them across the world before returning to South Africa at last. Boyce has been the chief executive officer of KWV since 2016. Anita has a masterโs degree in linguistics, and she loves the study of languages. Besides her husband and her cats, Anitaโs biggest priorities are her house, art and travel.
The Real Housewives franchise was started in March 2016 with The real Housewives of Orange County. Since then, eleven different series have been made in the US and NBCUniversal Formats have introduced 22 international versions, including recent adaptions in Durban, Johannesburg, Gqeberha and Cape Town. Die Real Housewives van Pretoria, which started in October 2022 on kykNET, was the first Afrikaans series. ย
Die Real Housewives van die Wynlande was filmed in and around Franschhoek, Paarl, Stellenbosch and Somerset West, produced by Red Pepper Productions. It starts on kykNET (DStv channel 144) on 20 April at 20:00.

Love the show. Anita is hilarious and everyone so beautiful. Very entertaining. I had the honour of meeting Amy in the Miss SA pageant in 1991. She just doesn’t age!
Anita is vir my pragtig, haar welige pragtige hare is ล fees. As ek jonger was sou ek haar oorskiet klere voor baklei. Ek is vaal ou tannie, en waardeer pragtige mense.
