Nestled in what I would describe as one of Cape Town’s most beautiful neighbourhoods, The Claremont Boutique Hotel by the Sabi Sabi Collection is a gem worth discovering. Now, with the recent launch of its Veld & Vine Bistro, even more so.
Veld & Vine Bistro officially opened its doors to the public recently, following a soft launch last year when the hotel reopened after an impressive refurbishment. The 1928 manor house and its pristine grounds now house the bistro, along with the 1928 Craft Bar and an impressive wine cellar, offering both in-house guests and walk-ins a wonderful culinary journey.

In fact, if you appreciate wine and need a good base from which you can explore some of the best wine regions in the Cape, The Claremont is the perfect place from which you can kick off your oenotourism adventures. Located mere minutes away from the renowned Constantia Wine Valley, Veld & Vine Bistro – dedicated to The Claremont Boutique Hotel’s food and beverage offering – gives guests an introductory taste to what one can expect from the nearby terroirs.

An Elegant Evening with Cocktails on the Lawn at Veld & Vine
Together with regular guests, Claremont’s elite and media, Veld & Vine Bistro celebrated flavours from the region with an elegant Cocktails on the Lawn event on 24 February 2026. Those in attendance mingled gleefully and meandered through the property’s beautiful gardens. Some even curiously peaked inside to learn more about the statuesque house’s history – a Cape Dutch-style home that was designed by well-known South African architect, Magdalena Gertruide Sauer. Formerly a home that I could only imagine entertained many a guest for dinner parties and al fresco evenings with live music, it now invites travellers who enjoy exploring deeper meaning to discover its stories – bit by bit, or shall I say bite for bite?

Plating Stories at Veld & Vine Bistro
Veld & Vine Bistro’s cuisine blends exceptionally well with The Claremont’s story, bringing about a humble feeling of home, whilst elevating it with top-quality ingredients and well-considered flavours and pairings. As the Sabi Sabi Collection’s Marketing Director, Jacques Smit says: “The Sabi Sabi Collection believes in immersive experiences through storytelling. The Claremont Boutique Hotel has a great South African story to tell and the farm-to-fork style of dining at the Veld & Vine Bistro complimented by its unique Constantia Valley wine list tells a very authentic story. It’s all part of showcasing what makes our country and our Mother City such an amazing destination to visit.”

Commitment to People and Place, Evident On Every Plate
Of course, with the Sabi Sabi Collection featuring four safari properties under its brand (and an exciting new property due to launch near Hoedspruit soon), various hints of the bush are brought into the experience at The Claremont Boutique Hotel too. That also trickles through to each of Veld & Vine Bistro’s plates, with the environment and the people that nurture the ingredients, at its core.

Think ethically sourced oysters, free-range meat and organic salads. The sirloin is utterly delicious – pair that with their triple-cooked fries or a generous serving of perfectly prepared, seasonal vegetables. End that off with the Chocolate Torte and a cup of coffee and let the final flavours dance on your palate. Of course, there are numerous alternatives on the menu, which caters for both meat-lovers and vegetarians alike. They have delicious salads perfect for a light lunch, whilst the Vegetable and Chickpea Curry is perfect for cooler evenings by the fire. Breakfasts also boast an array of options, ultimately setting the tone for a beautiful day in the Cape.

At Veld & Vine, the experience is humble yet elevated. The cuisine – whether for a slow breakfast under the giant oak, a light lunch or an indulgent dinner – is curated for the curious. Here, the food and wine tell stories beyond the plate. Stories rooted in heritage and driven by a passion for both people and place.
