The design-led lodge comes with four elegantly appointed ensuite bedrooms and generous living spaces that allow natural winelands light to enter the spaces that invite relaxation and connection. Leaning into Brookdale Estate’s philosophy around environmental consciousness, sustainability was one of the guiding principles for the design of The Owners’ Lodge. It comes as no surprise then that the luxury retreat is surrounded by indigenous gardens that blend seamlessly with the natural landscape, supporting local biodiversity while requiring very little irrigation. During construction, locally sourced materials were used wherever possible, including hand-worked stone that was salvaged from a demolition site at the Cape Town Waterfront, as well as reclaimed oak flooring from Paarl. They also used timber from a former warehouse in Wellington and the granite incorporated in the design was sourced from a nearby Paarl quarry. This assisted in reducing transport-related carbon impact.

This philosophy also extends to the destination’s ongoing operations. The off-the-grid lodge reflects eco luxury at its best, with solar power and battery storage ensuring that there is always electricity. Surplus energy is fed back into the national grid as green power. The Owners’ Lodge’s water is sourced from a borehole on the estate and purified on site. In addition, an advanced treatment system returns used water to the water table and surface runoff is recycled into Brookdale Estate’s irrigation system.
