Steenberg Wine Estate, one of South Africa’s most iconic wine destinations – nestled in the heart of Constantia – just unveiled a bold new look for its flagship wines and I am so here for it! Of course, they also did it in style!
Set against the glittering Jozi skyline at San Deck, Sandton Sun & Towers, the launch party on 10 April 2025 was the kind of night that blended fashion, fine wine, immersive storytelling and a touch of theatrical flair. Aptly named Steenberg Skyline & Vine, the event marked the official reveal of the estate’s newly designed Black Swan Sauvignon Blanc and Catharina Red Blend labels – and yes, they’re as elegant and elevated as you’d expect from a name like Steenberg.
A Wine Estate with a Story to Tell
Steenberg isn’t just about wine. It’s about legacy, pioneering spirit and next-level hospitality. Founded back in 1682 by pioneer, Catharina Ras – the Cape’s very first female landowner – this Constantia-based wine estate has always walked the line between tradition and trailblazing.

That same ethos still flows through everything they do today. From their cool-climate vineyards that produce award-winning Sauvignon Blancs and red blends, to the artful way they bring wine, design and storytelling together, Steenberg continues to set the standard for what modern South African wine culture looks like.
Design Meets Desire: The New Look of Steenberg
Steenberg’s striking new flagship labels reflect both the estate’s rich heritage and its future-forward vision. Think nude-toned elegance, tactile embossing and deep, moody hues – forest green for the Black Swan and regal purple for the Catharina – inspired by the brand’s new visual identity.
The updated labels don’t just look beautiful, they also feel premium. A sculpted image of Steenberg’s historic cellar, swans in flight and subtle nods to Catharina herself bring depth and texture to the design, while modern finishes elevate it for today’s luxury wine collector.
And, the message is clear: This isn’t just a wine. It’s a work of art. The soul of Steenberg, beautifully bottled.

The Launch: Wine, Design & a Little Drama
While I was unable to attend, the rooftop event itself is said to have been the perfect blend of urban chic and Steenberg sophistication. In fact, guests were even treated to a ballet performance symbolising the Black Swan – a beautiful nod to the estate’s signature Sauvignon Blanc. It was elegance, edge and emotion all in one.
A live band, DJ sets and digital projections on the city’s skyline kept the energy high and the vibe fresh all night.

And of course, there were tastings. The newly labelled Black Swan Sauvignon Blanc 2024 dazzled with its signature crisp acidity and minerality, while the Catharina Red Blend 2021 impressed with layers of structure, depth, and finesse.
More Than Just a Makeover
According to Carryn Wiltshire, Steenberg’s Marketing Manager, the rebrand is about much more than just a pretty label. These new designs are a celebration of what Steenberg is – steeped in history, but always evolving. They reflect the brand’s commitment to premium quality, innovation and storytelling.
Steenberg isn’t just following trends. The brand is setting them. Evidently, the rebrand aligns with a broader global movement towards luxury wine branding that is minimal, meaningful and utterly irresistible both on the shelf and in the cellar.

So, What’s Next?
If you missed the glamorous rooftop reveal (well, you and me both) – don’t worry! You can still get your hands on these wines. The new-look Black Swan Sauvignon Blanc 2024 and Catharina Red Blend 2021 are now available at select premium retailers, in the Steenberg Tasting Room and via the estate’s online store. Whether you’re stocking up for your own dinner party or adding something special to your collection, these bottles are made to be savoured, and shown off.

Final Sip: Why We Love This Steenberg Moment
As a lover of all things wine, I can’t help but raise a glass to Steenberg’s reimagined identity. It’s fresh, luxurious and deeply rooted in the story of a place and a woman who changed everything.
Here’s to legacy reimagined. Here’s to storytelling wines that don’t just taste beautiful – they look it too.
Be sure to visit Steenberg’s website to shop the collection, or better yet, plan a weekend escape to their award-winning estate in Constantia. Because some stories are best sipped slowly.
