Father’s Day Gift Ideas

Father day

While Father’s Day is a special day, we often keep it lowkey in our little family of four. Still, we do like to spoil dad with a little this and a little that to tell him that we love and appreciate him. This year, however, I do feel like pulling out all the stops. Wikus has been working very hard the past year and he started travelling a lot too lately, which made us appreciate the moments we have together even more.

I’ve been looking at some gift options for the kids to give to Wikus. We’ve been decluttering our home and therefore, whatever we buy needs to be practical and fit into what we’ve got planned for our family home, while also carrying sentimental value for my man. So, here are some special Father’s Day gift options I am considering, which I thought I might just as well share with you if you’re still pondering on what to get your dad.

For the dad who likes wine

Made from modern and elegant glass, Maxwell & Williams’ Diamante range complements any home (and a dad) with style. The Diamante Connoisseur Carafe (R330) is perfect for decanting that good glass of wine before serving.

If you’d like to add something extra, consider the brand’s Cosmopolitan Wine Glasses (R499), which come in a set of six 710ml wine glasses. These are said to be perfect for red and aged wines. They are made with quality crystalline glass.

A man for classics

If your dad is a man for the classics, perhaps you might want to opt for a bottle of Roodeberg’s Classic Red Blend. In fact, the iconic red blend comes in an eye-catching, limited edition gift pack (R109.99) specially designed with this year’s Father’s Day in mind. This wine is a special one, having been produced exclusively for export and only released to the South African market in 2004. In fact, at a point in time, no red wine was harder to come by. The wine’s scarcity gave rise to countless under-the-table exchanges. A bottle of Roodeberg Classic could easily get you tickets to an important rugby match, Kruger Park bookings or weekend getaways.

A father’s fragrance

Perfume is considered a spiritual complement. Master Perfumer, Jacques Cavallier Belletrud wanted to pay homage to those who – like him – are infatuated with exquisite raw materials. This lead to the birth of the Louis Vuitton fragrance, Ombre Nomade.

The fragrance is available in refillable, customisable bottles of 100ml and 200ml. it can also be purchased in a sleek leather case crafted in Louis Vuitton’s workshops, marked with your father’s initials. Since Wikus is travelling more and more often, I might opt for the 7.5ml travel spray, which comes with magnetic refills. This way, your dad gets to keep the fragrance close wherever his journey may lead.

A celebratory staple to toast with on Father’s Day

Moët & Chandon is a champagne meant for generous celebrations and togetherness. It’s the ideal gift to help make Father’s Day even more memorable. What more could one ask for than delicate bubbles, a harmonious blend of flavours and a crisp, refreshing palate?

A brandy that instills the sense of being

When one travels a lot, coming home to a loving family and a warm, welcoming family home is an almost inexplicable gift in itself. Make coming home even more special for dad, with a dedicated spot where he can indulge in a glass of Tokara’s XO Potstill Brandy (R1100). The masterly crafted XO Potstill Brandy recently earned Double Gold at the Intercontinental Spirits Challenge 2023. It was singled out among the best of the best Cap Brandies for its depth of flavour, complexity and unparalleled quality at the African leg of the intercontinental competition.

The perfect pair of shoes for Father’s Day

Old Khaki has a whole range of shoes that might serve as a special Father’s Day gift. These vellies caught my eye. Rustic, yet stylish and the ideal pair of shoes for travelling, I would say.

Time

In the end, I believe time is one of the best gifts you can give your dad this Father’s Day. Spend proper quality time with him, together as a family, and show him why he is so loved. Of course – if you have the means – you can combine that with a Denham watch as a reminder of the magical gift of time with loved ones.
