African fashion has dominated the world’s biggest runways this year – from London and Milan to New York and Paris. Now, it’s Cape Town’s turn to shine. The continent’s most talented designers will be taking center stage at Cape Town Fashion Week: The Edit Spring Summer 24, an event presented by Africa Fashion International (AFI).

Taking place at the iconic Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse on Friday, 29 November and Saturday, 30 November, it’s a must-attend for fashion enthusiasts, industry professionals and anyone passionate about design.

Pan-African Talent at Cape Town Fashion Week

Cape Town Fashion Week 2024 will be bringing together some of the finest designers from across Africa, celebrating both established icons and rising stars. The designers include:

  • Alia BarĂ© (Niger/Senegal), known for empowering women’s wear that combines exquisite fabrics with figure-hugging silhouettes.
  • LaurenceAirline (CĂ´te d’Ivoire), offering contemporary designs inspired by nomadic and multicultural influences.
  • SafiĂ©tou Seck of Sarayaa (Senegal), whose creations celebrate elegance and African heritage with a sophisticated global twist.
  • Papy Kaluw of Urban Zulu (Democratic Republic of Congo), whose garments reflect themes of spirituality, love and unity.

South African Designers in the Spotlight

In addition to the above African designers, homegrown talent will also take center stage. In fact, there will be an exciting mix of fresh perspectives and seasoned creativity:

  • Scalo by Sello Medupe, redefining Joburg chic with bold fabrics and futuristic designs.
  • Bathini Designs by Bathini Kowane, blending comfort and boldness in ready-to-wear collections.
  • Julia Buchanan’s JULIA, transitioning from swimwear to high-fashion collaborations with brands like Corona Africa.
  • Craig Jacobs of Fundudzi, returning after fourteen years with a grand finale collection steeped in African sustainability and heritage.
  • Craig Port, Cape Town’s own resort wear visionary, bringing his laid-back coastal glamour to the runway.

Fashion Forward with AFI Privé

AFI’s in-house brand, AFI Privé, will also debut its much-anticipated SS24/25 signature collection. Furthermore, a highlight of the event will be the AFI Fastrack Prize 2023 finalists, showcasing the future of African fashion in an unforgettable finale.

Meet the Designers Behind the Magic

One of the main reasons to appreciate fashion, is because each designer brings a unique story and perspective to their craft. FabroSanz’s Sandi Mazibuko grew her business from custom designs to a full-fledged fashion house through sheer determination and marketing savvy. K.Moraba & Collective’s Keletso Moraba, a former Intern by David Tlale winner, has become known for dressing South Africa’s stars in bold, feminine designs. And, Sisters of Afrika’s Hélène Daba Diouf champions ethical fashion and local craftsmanship to uplift communities in Senegal.
