Whether you’re looking for a romantic, intimate setting or a modern, informal eatery to celebrate the month of love, the capital’s got it all. Here is my list of restaurants in Pretoria that I would highly recommend for Valentine’s Day:

Prosopa – One of the Best Mediterranean Restaurants in Pretoria

While not new to the Pretoria food scene, it’s recently undergone a refurb, so the experience might be new altogether. Chef Patron Dino has been in the industry for many years and with that comes valuable experience in knowing what his patrons love. His Mediterranean heritage is like a golden string that gets pulled through the whole experience at Prosopa and you can expect to be taken on a culinary journey of note. Moses, Prosopa’s acclaimed sommelier, will also guide you to make the right decisions on the wine front, elevating your foodie experience even further.

P.S. They’re offering a Valentine’s Dinner special on 14 February 2025. At R800 per person, you can whisk yourself and your loved one away to a magical, romantic evening at Prosopa and celebrate Valentine’s Day and love in an elegant space.

Location: 103 Club Avenue, Waterkloof Heights, Pretoria

Ostra Oyster & Champagne Bar – Bohemian Chic

Another relatively new addition to the city, Ostra Oyster & Champagne Bar is probably one of the top spots for romantic dining in Pretoria. This beautifully designed space offers an almost Bohemian setting for couples to dine in. It is no doubt one of the best spots to wine and dine in Pretoria, offering some of the best food, especially for those who enjoy fish. The owners also own the fish monger next door, which means you’re bound to get the freshest fish in town when dining here. Pop the bubbly and celebrate Valentine’s Day at Ostra.

P.S. While their first seating for Valentine’s Day was booked up within days, they still have some availability left in their second seating, so be quick and book! Their Valentine’s offering includes a 5-course meal at R650 per person, kicking off at 18:00 on 14 February 2025.

Location: The Club, Cnr Pinaster Ave and Elandslaagte Road, Hazelwood, Pretoria

Fermier – One of a Few Fine Dining Restaurants in Pretoria

For those looking for a very intimate, romantic Valentine’s dinner spot with some of the best fine dining in town, Fermier is a must. Tucked away in the Karoo Yard on Lynnwood Road, this restaurant is one of Pretoria’s hidden gems, complete with a romantically lit pathway that leads to the farm-style front door. Chef Adriaan’s aim with this dining destination was to create a restaurant which can become completely self-sustainable in future. They serve a set menu from Tuesday to Saturday, with a set seating time of 19:00. This restaurant works on reservations only and if you ask me, you’ll have to book well in advance.

P.S. For Valentine’s Day, Fermier is offering a 7-course tasting menu at R900 per person (with the option of wine pairing at an additional R450 per person).

Location: Karoo Yard, Corner of Albeth and Lynnwood Road, 141 Lynnwood Road, The Willows, Pretoria

Golden Hour Grill – Asian Cuisine for Valentine’s Day

Golden Hour Grill Matcha Cheese Cake Pretoria

Having visited this brand-new Pretoria restaurant for the very first time last week, I can highly recommend them to anyone keen on a different kind of culinary experience. Golden Hour brings an authentic take on Asian cuisine to the capital. The eatery is the brainchild of the two Tam brothers, who decided to take on the project of opening a restaurant as a tribute to their late father. Golden Hour serves all kinds of Asian dishes, inspired by their travels. Premium Udon noodles – imported from Japan – are a must-try here, as are the Enoki Rolls. Golden Hour also has tables with grills in the middle, where you can grill your own meat while enjoying that special someone’s company on Valentine’s Day. While their liquor license is still pending, they do have various other drinks available, including some delicious mocktails.

Location: Phase 2, Office Park, 107 Haymeadow Street Boardwalk, Faerie Glen, Pretoria

The Tasting Room – With Wine at its Core

If you and your partner enjoy comparing wine tasting notes, The Tasting Room is the place to be this Valentine’s Day. As yet another restaurant where you can wine and dine in Pretoria, they always have some or other food and wine event happening, hence they’re bound to have something up their sleeve in the month of love. Bring your bae and celebrate love while sipping on a specially selected wine, paired with some of the most delicious food.

P.S. A little birdy told me that they’ll be serving a set menu coupled with a wine tasting on Valentine’s Day this year. At R1350 per couple, I’d say this is a pretty sweet deal.

Location: 198 Long Street, Waterkloof, Pretoria

Kleinkaap – An Escape from the Hustle and Bustle

Also quite a popular Pretoria restaurant for romantic dining, Kleinkaap Boutique Hotel’s second evening of their Valentine’s Dinner & Movie Experience is already open for bookings. On Saturday, 15 February 2025, they’ll be pulling out all the stops to make your Valentine’s Day one for the books. Bring a Valentine’s picnic blanket, chair and pillow and spend the evening under the stars with your favourite person next to you. Doors open at 17:30, with tickets at R580 per person including dinner, a free movie and snacks. Tickets are available at tickets.tixsa.co.za.

Sorcery Ruins – Valentine’s with a View

Looking for something less formal, but still Valentine’s with a view? Perhaps even just a quick Valentine’s treat like coffee and croissants? Sorcery Coffee Roasters’ Diep in die Berg location, Sorcery Ruins, is a self-service café with great coffee and small eats like croissants, cakes, quiches and toasties, perfect for a Valentine’s breakie with a view. They also have sourdough pizzas on offer. With their extremely high focus on high grade coffees, this is one of the best coffee spots in Pretoria.

Location: 3 Diep in die Berg, Wapadrand, Pretoria

Pasta Barra – Wine and Dine in Style

Make special Valentine’s memories at Pasta Barra. With its modern, simplistic interiors and impressive open kitchen, this is a Pretoria restaurant where the food does the talking. Their wine list also offers an array of top quality South African wines, and while the food leans toward fine dining, their portions are generous and the flavours are divine. With beautifully plated dishes and delicate wines, this is the one restaurant where you’ll definitely impress that someone special this Valentine’s Day.

P.S. They have confirmed that they will be running a Valentine’s Day special this year, so keep an eye out for it on social media.

Capito! – One of the Best Italian Restaurants in Pretoria

Capito Pretoria Valentine's Day

An old favourite for mine, Capito! is one of those Pretoria restaurants that offers consistency when it comes to their food and wine menus. With wine forming a large part of the experience at Capito!, their wine list is one of the most extensive lists in Pretoria, with some of the best local and international wines to choose from. Also, their food – Italian-inspired, since their owner hails from there – is hearty and delicious, with a large section of the menu dedicated to pizza and pasta. They do, however, also have incredible meat and fish dishes on offer too and their Tiramisu is out of this world!

P.S. Capito! will be offering a 3-course set menu on Valentine’s Day, at an affordable price of R550 per person.

Location: The Club Retail, Cnr Pinaster Ave and 18th Street, Hazelwood, Pretoria

Hillside Tavern – A Nostalgic Haven for Pretoria Foodies

If you’re looking for a nostalgic experience with hearty meals, Hillside Tavern is a safe bet. As another Pretoria restaurant that has stood the test of time, their menu is rather extensive, with various meat, chicken, duck, fish and game options to choose from. We recently visited Hillside Tavern for a date night and while we felt that they can up their game when it comes to the wine list, the food was generously portioned and delicious. A large chunk of the menu is dedicated to classics like Chicken Cordon Blu, Eisbein and Wiener Schnitzel – perfect for diners who like to know what they can expect. For some, the interior might seem a bit dated, but it’s cosy and inviting with a couple of tables that ensure a little more privacy for intimate, romantic dining in Pretoria.

Location: 320 The Hillside Street, Lynnwood, Pretoria
