For the White Wine Lover
Dan’s Pick:
Fryer’s Cove Bamboes Bay Sauvignon Blanc – A gem from a farm based right on the wild Atlantic coast, this wine comes with a saline, maritime freshness – perfect for people who think they don’t like Sauvignon Blanc.

SUITCASE & CHARDONNAY also suggests:
Iona Sophie te’Blanche Sauvignon Blanc – fresh, crisp, balanced, accessible and playful, this delicious wine comes with vibrant pure fruit notes of cut green apples, zesty limes and gooseberries.
Creation Chardonnay – described as the queen of white wines, this 100% Chardonnay from the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley boasts steely tension while also being elegantly refined.
For the Bubbles Enthusiast
Dan’s Pick:
Graham Beck 100% Pinot Meunier – A masterpiece from Graham Beck’s Artisan Collection – the estate’s artistic playground – this Cap Classique showcases Graham Beck’s commitment to pushing boundaries when it comes to Cap Classique production. Dan says: “The godfather of South African bubbles is Pieter Ferreira, who’s driven the global success of Graham Beck.” It’s only natural that this bubbly would be a good choice for festive season celebrations.

SUITCASE & CHARDONNAY also suggests:
- Vergenoegd Löw Chenin MCC – From the Estate Collection, this Cap Classique is grace in a glass. With a creamy texture and attractive yeastiness, this bubbly begs for oysters and it will never say no to caviar!
- Le Lude Vintage Cuvee 2016 – This MCC is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and comes with aromas of citrus, apple, lemon poppy seed and biscotti. It’s simply beautiful in the glass, with a pale, golden hue and youthful flicks of green at its depth.
For the Classic Red Wine Fan
Dan’s Pick:
Skyfall from Bartinney – Elegant, pure and full of mountain-valley character, this limited release Cabernet Sauvignon was named after the Stellenbosch estate’s dizzying mountain bike trail. Pure, elegant and quietly majestic.

SUITCASE & CHARDONNAY also suggests:
Roodeberg Cabernet Sauvignon – A fun favourite! Roodeberg’s limited-edition Santa hats return, connecting families and friends over a glass of well-dressed red. As winemaker, James Osche says: “Roodeberg has always been about connection – about the people you share it with.”

Durbanville Hills’ The Collectors Reserve Lighthouse Merlot – Forming part of a beautiful gift set with two exceptional wines from The Collectors Range, this wine is elegant and the perfect gift that blends with art, wine and the spirit of summer. The wine labels of the Merlot and the Cape Mist Sauvignon Blanc, as well as the set of six beautifully crafted coasters, were illustrated by local artist, Theo Paul Vorster.
For the Wine Snob (The Very Serious Collector)
Dan’s Pick:
Leeu Passant Chardonnay – A masterpiece from Andrea & Chris Mullineux, admired worldwide. This grape is scaling new heights in South Africa and this winemaking couple – two of the original champions of the Swartland’s global ascent – sure knows how to make wine from it!

Sadie Family’s Columella – An earthy wine that shows great complexity.
Porseleinberg – A Swartland Syrah that speaks of a very special terroir just past Riebeek-Kasteel.
LISTEN: TIM ATKIN’S TAKE ON THIS YEAR’S BEST WINES
For the Wine Geek (pet nat, skin contact, natural wine enthusiasts)
Dan’s Pick:
Vine Venom Shining Rosé – According to Dan Really Likes Wine, Samantha Suddons’ smoky, fruity, low-intervention and brilliantly edgy Rosé is perfect for any vegan wine friend who wears hemp sandals and doesn’t miss Afrika Burn. In her wines, everything is kept as natural as possible and she uses flor. Shining is an unusual Rosé that can handle a spicy meal.
SUITCASE & CHARDONNAY also suggests:
Intellego Elementis Skin-Contact Chenin – Wild, textural and authentic, this wine speaks to Intellego’s constant commitment to finding that balance that demonstrates how they sync with nature in the most natural way possible. The bottle’s label in itself is something that instantly catches the eye, with the wine’s name referring to the 4 elements of earth, water, fire and air.
Savage Follow the Line – This cinsault-driven wine is vibrant and endlessly interesting.
For the Wine-and-Dog Lover
Dan’s Pick:
Paul Wallace Black Dog Malbec – This year’s Platter Malbec of the Year and a heartfelt tribute to the Elgin farm’s beloved dogs.
SUITCASE & CHARDONNAY also suggests (with some hints from Dan):
Beyers Truter’s Diesel Pinotage – A tribute to Beyerskloof’s Beyers Truter’s Great Dane, Diesel, who also features on the label. This big-structured wine is lithe and supple with authentic varietal expression, depth of flavours and intensity of fruit.

Mulderbosch Faithful Hound – This Stellenbosch blend effortlessly snatches you away on a South African flavour journey.
For the Old-School Sipper
Dan’s Pick:
Adi Badenhorst’s Sherry Range – A nostalgic revival of that old-fashioned evening tipple, Swartland aristocrat, Adi Badenhorst has created a small range of sherry perfect for seaside-sipping at his Saldanha Wine & Spirit Co. Sherry is officially delightfully back in fashion!

SUITCASE & CHARDONNAY also suggests:
Boplaas Cape Tawny Reserve – Rich, nutty and indulgent.
To Impress the Boss
Dan’s Pick:

Warwick Trilogy – Polished, classic and perfect for gifting.
Great Wine, Great Cause
Dan’s Pick:
Nedbank Alchemy Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 – A rare two-barrel release supporting youth upliftment initiatives like the Pinotage Youth Development Academy. While Klein Constantia’s Matt Day is known for his Sauvignon Blancs, he makes some decent reds too. The Nedbank Alchemy won’t be around for long, since two barrels of exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon made for only 600 bottles, so hurry!
SUITCASE & CHARDONNAY also suggests:

Good – on a Budget
Dan’s Pick:
Marras Red Blend -Swartland flavour, value and personality in one joyful bottle. In fact, as Dan puts it, these wines are “almost suspiciously well priced.” This blend of Shiraz, Cinsault and Grenache is one to seek out, for sure.
SUITCASE & CHARDONNAY also suggests:
Bosman Adama Red Blend – Excellent craftsmanship at a great price from Bosman Family Vineyards in Wellington. And, you can even get a better price on this Shiraz-based blend if you join their wine club.
Bruce Jack Wines – Accessible, flavourful and always enjoyable wines from a winemaker-driven, family business that believes the concept of ‘value’ is as important when enjoying an everyday wine as it is when tasting something rare and very expensive.
When Money Is No Object
Dan’s Pick:
Tokara Telos and Delaire Graff Sir Laurence Graff Reserve – Banhoek brilliance, both unforgettable luxury wines around R4,000.

SUITCASE & CHARDONNAY also suggests:
