Spanning 1400m² across two storeys and overlooking one of the most impressive sights at Steyn City Estate, the brand-new Saxon Spa Steyn City is bound to leave you breathless. Reflecting Spa Manager, Tanya Lopes’ incredible insights and much of the late South African billionaire, Douw Steyn’s initial vision, an experience at this luxury spa brings much more than just restoration, rejuvenation and reconnection full circle.
Walking into the tranquil space – perfectly placed adjacent to the Clubhouse and the renowned 19 by Michael Restaurant – a sense of calm instantly fell over me. An incredible amount of detail has gone into the planning and development of the Saxon Spa Steyn City – from the beautiful décor that holds much more meaning than one might think, to the premium products used, the innovative treatments and ultimately, the Saxon Spa journey. Everything about the spa reflects the brand’s ethos: a strong belief in holistic, meaningful healing.
Creating Peace in a Fast-Paced World
Strolling through the peaceful reception area (where you can also browse through a vast collection of products and buy your favourites – like the Black Pepper Massage Balm from the Soul by Saxon range), flickering gas fires and the sound of water features drew me in. The pause area, with plush, tempting daybeds, called for a sweet hiatus and a soft landing following the drive from Pretoria.

Restorative Art at Saxon Spa Steyn City
Local environmental artist, Stephen Pikus, has had a huge role to play in the interiors of Saxon Spa Steyn City, with striking chandeliers – handcrafted from recycled glass – completing each treatment room and adding elegance to other spaces. In addition, the spa’s pool and jacuzzi areas have been beautified with bold, bespoke mosaic creations by Mosaic Arts, inspired by nature.

These eye-catching works were not only conversation starters amongst the group of women I visited the spa with; they also bring an additional layer of artistry and local connection to the serene atmosphere of the Saxon Spa Steyn City.
Brands Beyond Borders
While Saxon Spa has its own impressive Soul by Saxon range – used in treatments and available at their retail space – they also offer premium global skincare brands. These include brands like Subtle Energies, Ling New York, Dr Levy Switzerland and BABOR – all chosen for their integrity, innovation, and results.

Soul by Saxon, however, is proudly South African, developed with local superfood ingredients and reflecting a commitment to conscious wellness. From the products used in my body scrub and back, neck and shoulder massage, to the ones I got to take home, it’s pure homegrown magic.
Choose Your Treatment at Saxon Spa Steyn City
With various treatments tailored to individual wellness goals, the Saxon Spa Steyn City offers everything from ancient healing rituals to cutting-edge therapies. The luxurious Joburg-based spa boasts nine spacious treatment rooms – including two double suites for couples’ treatments – alongside tranquil relaxation lounges, elegant changing suites and a hydrotherapy circuit with a plunge bath, sauna, steam room, heated vitality pools and a floatation pool.
In addition to popular choices like the Soul by Saxon Signature Journey and Digital Detox Journey, guests can also experience their VibrAcoustic wellness journey – the first of its kind on the African continent. This unique blend of ancient meditation and modern sound therapy uses specific vibrational frequencies to promote deep relaxation, reduced stress and improved sleep.

To complete the day, be sure to enjoy something fresh from their high-end juice bar and light nutritional menu.
The journey at this city sanctuary is in complete contrast to the day-to-day grind of the general city dweller, designed to nurture body, mind and spirit. With the softest Mungo towels, luxe robes and take-home flip-flops, the memories of a day at Saxon Spa Steyn City lie in the little details that have all been so meticulously planned. This luxury spa experience in Johannesburg extends beyond treatments, with every corner; every crystal-themed treatment room; every unique view allowing for quiet reflection and deep relaxation.
