Known as the world’s finest chef in Italian gastronomy, Massimo Bottura – the visionary behind numerous Michelin-starred restaurants including the Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura collection – has introduced two additions to the Florence-based Gucci Osteria’s wine selection. Krone Amphora Blanc de Blancs and Krone Rosé Cuvée Brut have earned their spot on this illustrious list.
Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura is based in four global destinations: Florence, Beverly Hills, Seoul and Tokyo. The restaurant collection boasts a unique blend of culinary excellence and fashion influence, thanks to its namesakes, Gucci CEO Marco Bizzarri and Bottura. These two individuals are lifelong friends who have been united by their passion for food and fashion.
Bottura’s pioneering Osteria Francescana has been located in the heart of Modena, Italy since 1995. It’s the pinnacle of gastronomy, holding three Michelin stars and having secured the top position on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list in both 2016 and 2018. Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura, with its outlets in Florence, Beverly Hills, and Tokyo each proudly flaunts a Michelin star.
Krone’s selection for the Florence venue’s wine list is quite the tap on the back. As one of South Africa’s premier Cap Classique producers, Krone specialises in vintage-only Cap Classiques. These bubblies encapsulate the essence of each harvest, celebrating the unique characteristics of every season.
Abigail Rands, Krone’s marketing director says: “Featuring not just one but two of our vintages on the menu of such a globally renowned establishment is a reason for celebration. We are delighted that a prominent global influencer acknowledges our mission at Krone, which is to craft distinctive Cap Classiques.”
Krone Amphora Blanc de Blancs 2020 is an unadulterated representation of Chardonnay. This vintage is fermented in long, narrow clay amphorae and crafted in small batches, adopting a natural approach without the addition of enzymes or sulfur. This results in an extraordinary unfiltered Blanc de Blancs that showcases the full spectrum of Chardonnay’s flavours, with hints of citrus, lemongrass, white pear, green apples and smoked almonds.
For Krone Rosé Cuvée Brut 2021, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes were handpicked during the cool night hours. They were then gently pressed and underwent bottle fermentation in the winery’s underground Tulbagh cellar. This vintage-only Rosé Cuvée Brut shows pure and structural acidity, a testament to the temperature fluctuations of the Tulbagh region. It offers waves of strawberry and cranberry freshness, complemented by notes of blood orange zest and mandarin peel.
The inclusion of these Cap Classiques on the Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura wine list is a harmonious union. It reflects both brands’ dedication to top quality and innovation. It certainly marks a pivotal international moment for South African Cap Classique.
