During a recent trip to the beautiful Cape, I attended the intimate launch of Okapi Africa’s latest range of apparel and accessories, which forms part of the Art of Collaboration 2024 campaign. The Okapi Africa event was hosted at their flagship winelands boutique, located on the Franschhoek-based Anthonij Rupert Wine Farm. With the launch of this apparel and accessory line and through clever collaboration, the brand continues to elevate African craftsmanship. Ultimately, the campaign emphasises creativity, diversity and unity by blending luxury African design with international influences, raising the bar in fashion, art and luxury lifestyle.

Known for its luxury leather accessories, Okapi Africa has now expanded its range with knitwear and unique bag designs, created in collaboration with local artisans. Each piece, from beautifully beaded shawls – crafted by Monkeybiz – to felted textiles by Stephanie Bentum, indicates passion and commitment to craftsmanship. The collection also highlights ethical practices, including merino wool knits from Gerber and Co., underscoring the brand’s dedication to sustainability.

CEO Jeanine Benjamin says: “Our vision of luxury is one that celebrates collaboration, creativity and craftsmanship, reflecting the heart of Okapi Africa’s ethos.” The brand’s belief in the power of collective effort, with artisans drawing from African cultural heritage to create items that tell a deeper story, is tangible and makes one want to invest in one of their beautiful, durable products that will last a lifetime.

Okapi Africa describes the Art of Collaboration – founded by South African designer, Stephen van Eeden, as a ‘movement,’ blending art, fashion and culture to redefine luxury. The 2024 campaign, shot in the vibrant city of Marrakech, was brought to life by campaign muse Melissa Nayimuli, a Miss South Africa 2023 finalist. All in all, the collaboration is a testament to the transformative potential of creative minds coming together. In the process, they produce designs that are not only extraordinary, but also culturally significant.
