If you are struggling to get into the Christmas spirit after a long, difficult year, these events should get you excited about the festive season sooner than suspected:

Magical Italian Village of Lights

24 November 2021 – 5 January 2022

Rekindle the joy of the festive season at Montecasino with their Magical Italian Village of Lights. Take the family and wander through the Tuscan village-themed streets decorated with more than 285 300 LED lights.

The bonus is that you can experience this #MonteMagic from 7AM until 10PM come rain or shine.

Joburg Festival of Lights at Joburg Zoo

25 November 2021 – 2 Janaury 2022

Joburg Theatre in association with the City of Johannesburg entities, Joburg City Parks and Zoo and City Power, presents the annual Joburg Festival of Lights featuring an enchanting collection of illuminated life-size animal characters and classical, harmonious entertainment, food, and craft night market for visitors to the Joburg Zoo.

Stroll under decorated trees on a designated lit route away from the animals between 7PM – 10PM daily (except on Mondays). Patrons can look forward to The Nutcracker by Joburg Ballet, Christmas carols by Mzansi Youth Choir and more.

Tickets are available at R75 for kids aged between 3 and 12, R90 for pensioners and R150 for kids older than 12 and adults. Kids under 3 may enter for free.

Ngwenya Glass Muldersdrift Christmas Market

28 November 2021

Eat, drink and be merry in the countryside with a variety of traders and shops to browse through at the Ngwenya Glass Muldersdrift Christmas Market. The market is dog-friendly and entrance is free and there is even a revamped play area to keep the kids entertained.

You’ll also find the award-winning Gilroy’s Brewery here, where you can enjoy some live entertainment and a pint of beer.

The event takes place from 9AM to 4PM.

Summer Holiday Christmas Market

27 and 28 November 2021

Get into the Christmas spirit at the Pretoria National Botanical Gardens with this family event that will boast a variety of exhibitors, crafts, delicious food, kids’ entertainment, live performances and more. Even Santa will be there!

Gates open at 9AM and tickets cost R45 per adult, R30 per student (with student card), R15 for learners and kids under 6 can enter for free.

Carols under the Stars

30 November 2021 – 2 December 2021

Pretoria’s The Grove Mall will be hosting Carols under the Stars, eagerly welcoming the festive season with singing.

Taking place on three evenings, the event will include performances by five popular South African artists like André Schwartz, Willem Botha, Franja du Plessis, Lee Scott and Leah singing some of your favourite Christmas carols.

The event will take place in The Grove Piazza, which means you can take a seat at one of your preferred restaurants and enjoy the show from there while indulging in some hearty, Pretoria cuisine.

Entry to the event is free.

Crafters Fair Christmas Market

3 – 19 December 2021

Emperors Palace’s Crafters Fair Christmas Market should get you in the Christmas mood right from the get-go.

Tickets cost R10 per person and children under the age of 12 may enter for free.

Pretoria Products Christmas Market

5 December 2021

Taking place at the Mooikrans Garden Venue in Pretoria, this Christmas market is one not to be missed.

Bring your picnic blanket and enjoy some live entertainment while indulging in Greek food, pancakes, whiskey, coffee and more.

The market will kick off at 10AM and closes at 3PM.

No pets allowed.

Jakaranda Liggiefees

11 December 2021 – 19 December 2021

The Jakaranda Liggiefees will once again be held at the Greenlyn Village Centre in Menlo Park, Pretoria this year. This annual food and craft event raises funds for the Jacaranda Children’s Home, with two thirds of the festival’s ticket fees to be donated to the children’s home.

Cullinan Christmas Market

18 December 2021

Just a stone’s throw away from Pretoria, the village, Cullinan will also host their year end Christmas market on 18 December. Christmas decorations, crafts, food stalls and carols by candlelight will keep you and your family entertained from morning ‘til night and of course, it is the ideal opportunity to do that last-minute Christmas shopping.
