Since its inaugural flight in 1953, Air France has been a true and trusted partner in connecting Paris and Joburg, and later also Cape Town. In fact, the airline has played a pivotal role in promoting international travel, fostering cultural exchange, tourism and business opportunities between France and South Africa.

Now, the airline has announced that it will be adding a seasonal route for the festive season. Come 17 October 2023, it will offer travellers the opportunity to take direct flights between Cape Town International Airport and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. The seasonal route will be operating during the peak travel period on a Boeing Dreamliner 787-900 on Tuesdays and Sundays. Ultimately, it will allow travellers to experience the best of both cities.

The Air France schedule will be as follows:

Flight AF864: Departs Paris at 10:10 to arrive in Cape Town at 21:20 that evening.

Flight AF871: Departs Cape Town at 23:35 to arrive in Paris at 11:20 the following morning.

These flights will be in addition to the daily flights between the two cities, which are already in place.

“Air France is thrilled to connect the culturally rich and cosmopolitan city of Paris with the breath-taking wonders of Cape Town,’ says Wilson Tauro, Country Manager Southern Africa for Air France-KLM. “Air France understands the demand for the route during this seasonal period and looks forward to welcoming passengers on board, providing an unparalleled travel experience and fostering connections between two extraordinary destinations.”

During the Covid-19 Coronavirus pandemic, Air France emerged as a standout among airlines by conducting repatriation flights. Collaborating with its sister-airline, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Air France successfully executed 97 repatriation flights, shuttling passengers from Johannesburg and Cape Town to Paris and Amsterdam. A remarkable feat indeed, as they safely transported 18,934 passengers back to their respective homes, showcasing Air France’s unwavering dedication to serving the South African market.
