Whilst De Hoop Collection is not located on the ocean side of De Hoop Nature Reserve, it is an easy (and beautiful) drive to Koppie Alleen where enormous sand dunes, a pristine coastline and beautiful intertidal rock pools invite the curious to explore. Those keen on some exercise can even rent bikes from reception and cycle to Koppie Alleen, which can only add to an already perfect day out in nature. Pressed for time, we could not spend as much time down at the tidal pools as we would have liked to, but the kids had a ball on the sand dunes and we even got to spot some whales while quenching our thirst at Bites Beach Café. With its Afrikaans name that translates to ‘lonely hill,’ Koppie Alleen’s gigantic sand dunes and the incredible ocean views that stretch for miles offer one of the best escapes from reality, for sure.

Designed with its location between the ocean and dune forests in mind, and bringing in lots of local elements, Club Med South Africa invites visitors to immerse themselves in the Ubuntu culture of the Rainbow Nation. The design is playful and with the help of local artisans and brands like Ashanti Design, a lot of intricate, yet impressive details have been woven into the design experience of the resort. Chef de Village, Barq Guessoum says: “Club Med is more than an experience. It’s about the story. It’s not the souvenir of the view, it’s the souvenir of emotion.” Both the design and the experiences at the resort make for those emotional souvenirs; memories that guests get to cherish for years to come.
