Step Inside A Summer Story by BIRKENSTOCK

A  four-day residency in Cape Town is set to reimagine BIRKENSTOCK’s DNA through fashion and local creativity. It’s true that Cape Town has always set its own rhythm – a cadence shaped by nature, creativity and community. This informs not only how people move through the city, but also how they dress and how they choose to express themselves. BIRKENSTOCK will be stepping into that rhythm this summer. The brand‘s four-day takeover at The Ladder Café will transform Bree Street into a hub of fashion, food and engaging experiences. Ultimately, the residency will reinterpret BIRKENSTOCK’s iconic design DNA through a local, fashion-led lens, blending silhouette, materiality and palette.

Thursday, 4th December: First Thursday Launch with BIRKENSTOCK

The residency is set to kick off with an energetic First Thursday launch on 4 December from 17:00 to 22:00. DJ Lungi (Homie. Lover. Friend.) will set the vibrant soundtrack, filling the space with music that mirrors the creative energy of the evening.

Visitors will step into an interactive, immersive space that is part coffee shop, part gallery and part creative studio, with a curated shoppable corner and a complimentary tote bag gift with all BIRKENSTOCK purchases. On top of that, a laser-etching station will allow guests to personalise their own pair of BIRKENSTOCK – old or new.

Culinary delights are part of the experience with artisanal ice cream created by Studio H, accented with hints of blue to reflect the cobalt colours of the residency. Guests who arrive wearing their BIRKENSTOCK can enjoy this treat on the house throughout the duration of the takeover. Also available from Thursday until Sunday is The BIRKENSTOCK Breakfast – a freshly baked brezel (soft pretzel) with whipped herb butter, another menu exclusive created just for the occasion.

Summer Silhoettes: Friday and Saturday, 5 and 6 December

On Friday (07:00 – 10:00 and 12:00 – 16:00) and Saturday (08:00 – 10:00), the residency will remain open for visitors to explore the shoppable corner and BIRKENSTOCK’s summer silhouettes, as well as the fashion collaborations and interactive moments.

BIRKENSTOCK on Bree: Sunday, 7th December

The residency will conclude with a Bree Street Sunday open-air experience (11:00 – 17:00) in collaboration with Young Urbanists. Acoustic live music by Majozi will fill the air as guests enjoy street games, brand installations and community-focused interactions.

Food highlights for the final day include a gourmet hotdog pop-up by Studio H, featuring ethically sourced German sausages and distinctly South African condiments. Guests wearing their BIRKENSTOCK can enjoy a complimentary hotdog, available at the corner of Shortmarket and Bree Street, for one day only. Studio H’s artisanal ice cream will remain available at The Ladder Café for the final Sunday.
