Food and Wine Pairings at the Marine Hotel, Hermanus

The Marine Hotel in Hermanus is teaming up with some of the region’s top-tier wine estates to present a series of exquisite gourmet wine and food dinners in the months ahead. Executive Chef Olof Vorster will curate a bespoke 5-course menu expertly paired with wines, each presented by the respective winemaker, all set in the elegant ambiance of The Origins Restaurant.

The series commences on April 27th with Idiom Wines, guided by winemaker Reino Thiart. The Bottega family, proud owners of Idiom, honour their Italian roots, reflected in the Italian grape varietals thriving in the Cape terroir.

Upon arrival, guests will be treated to a Russian blini canapé paired with Idiom Bianco 2022, a Pinot Grigio boasting flinty minerality. This will be followed by two hors d’oeuvres courses: Pan-grilled catch of the day paired with the complex, barrel-fermented Idiom Semillon 2020, and a succulent Roasted lamb cutlet harmonized with Idiom Zinfandel (Primitivo) 2019.

The main course features Beef shin ragout ravioli with truffled mushroom velouté, a perfect complement to Idiom Barbera 2020, renowned for its aromas of dark cherries, plums and leather, with delicate hints of raspberries. The gastronomic journey culminates with a delectable Almond butter shortcake dessert, infused with elements of blueberry and dark chocolate, elevated by the intense blackcurrant and rich berry flavours of Idiom Imperium Black Gold.

This event marks the inaugural installment of five extraordinary culinary experiences scheduled at The Marine until August. Guests can look forward to indulging in the delights of Hamilton Russell wines on 3 May, Bouchard Finlayson on 7 June, Creation on 5 July and Newton Johnson to round off the series on 2 August 2024.
