We recently took a trip down to Cape Town and the Garden Route. I had been planning and packing for two weeks non-stop, making lists, buying snacks (I wanted to bake gluten-free cupcakes for the road, but there was no time) and contemplating on what to pack to entertain the kids in the car. The one thing at the top of my list for in-car (and on-holiday) entertainment was Solarpop’s board game, 5 Second Rule, but the South African travel version.

Even though the instructions indicate that it’s for families with kids aged eight and older, Catha (5) is better at answering some of the questions within the 5-second time limit than me! The fun part is that with many of the questions in this game, there are not necessarily any wrong answers – unless you’re really competitive and want to keep things very specific. So, it’s easy to let the youngsters play along. Even Elian answers a question here and there and he is only three.
