TANG, an illustrious Asian Luxury Restaurant and Bar, will soon also be gracing the vibrant landscape of Dubai. Come December 2023, it will be nestled perfectly within the prestigious Address Palace Downtown Hotel. The Dubai-based restaurant will invite patrons to embark on a sensory culinary journey inspired by the contemporary Japanese izakayas and the timeless Cantonese establishments of Hong Kong – all that against the impressive backdrop of the iconic Burj Khalifa and the mesmerizing Dubai Fountains. Needless to say, this dining destination is poised to deliver an unparalleled dining encounter in Dubai.
The mastermind behind the brand is the acclaimed hospitality entrepreneur, Nicky van der Walt. TANG Dubai marks the first global expansion of the South African hospitality portfolio, with the first TANG debuting in Sandton, Johannesburg in 2021. The second followed a year later, opening its doors in the popular V&A Waterfront, Cape Town in 2022.
As the founder and owner of the MIRAMAR Collection – the entity behind these remarkable eateries and his personal wine label – van der Walt says: “Dubai is the natural progression and the next chapter in our brand’s narrative. Finding the perfect locale was crucial for our flagship international expansion, aligning with the iconic essence of our sister establishments.”
TANG Dubai was named in honour of the Tang dynasty. It pays tribute to a golden era in Chinese history, renowned for its cosmopolitan culture, prosperity, and timeless allure. The TANG Dubai space was conceived by the esteemed interior architect, Tristian du Plessis and occupies an expansive 10 000 square feet. It seamlessly embodies a sleek, opulent, minimalist design aesthetic, enveloped by an ambiance that exudes a tropical Asian charm. Staying true to the signature style of TANG Sandton and TANG V&A Waterfront, du Plessis continues to channel the brand’s elemental design philosophy and modern tropical essence.
TANG evokes the spirit of authentic Japanese izakayas, where an inviting atmosphere encourages the sharing of an array of plates, flavours and tastes among family and friends. Evidently, TANG Dubai will embrace and elevate this concept. The menu will be an exquisite symphony of contemporary Asian cuisine, featuring delectable Cantonese-style dishes, a tantalising robata grill selection, exceptional sushi offerings and an array of authentic wok dishes that are bound to captivate the senses.
Van der Walt says: “Dubai stands as a global culinary epicenter, hosting some of the finest operators in the world. The privilege of introducing TANG to this discerning audience in an awe-inspiring and legendary locale is simply mind-blowing.”
