As the holiday season approaches, I am all for cruising in Southern African waters! You can prepare yourself for a spectacular cruising season, with Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) making a grand return to Southern Africa in November 2024. The cruise line will be offering travellers the chance to explore Africaโ€™s breathtaking coastlines aboard not one, but two vessels: The Norwegian Dawn and, for the first time in South Africa, the Norwegian Sky. These exciting itineraries will run through to May 2025, providing a unique and cost-effective way for travellers to explore multiple destinations without the hassle of long-haul flights.

Norwegian Cruise Line 2024-2025 Itineraries

With departures from Cape Town in South Africa, or Port Louis in Mauritius, NCL’s 11 to 21-day cruises are set to become a hit with local travellers. Kevin Bubolz, NCLโ€™s VP and Managing Director for Continental Europe, Middle East and Africa, highlights the appeal of these itineraries and says: “Travellers can explore Southern Africa, enjoy a beach holiday in Mauritius – South Africans’ favourite international destination – or embark on a multi-country adventure, visiting Reunion, Madagascar, Mozambique and other stunning ports along the South African coast.”

Cape Town’s Growing Cruise Industry

The return of NCL to Cape Town comes at a time when the city is positioning itself as a major cruise hub. In fact, Travis Stedman, Business Development Manager of Cruise Cape Town, says the city has experienced remarkable growth in cruise tourism. In the 2022-2023 cruise season, Cape Town welcomed 70 cruise ships, which brought in over 145 000 passengers and 42 000 crew members. With the 2023-2024 economic impact study on the horizon, the city aims to continue this momentum by enhancing its cruise tourism infrastructure.
