My French heritage has me in awe of the latest Louis Vuitton SS25 runway highlights. It’s true that French fashion is a remarkable soft power. The recent Women’s Spring-Summer 2025 Collection by Nicolas Ghesquière at the Cour Carrée du Louvre in Paris radiated a tradition of savoir-faire; an art de vivre. In fact, it sends out a message of cultural singularity.
The collection, filled with oversized shirts with bold shoulder accents, stripes, many diagonal lines and fan bags (a definite favourite for me), the collection thrives on contrast. Taken literally, soft power is a fascinating oxymoron in this instance, as the fashion house‘s reputation is all but soft. In fact, it’s one of the fashion houses with definite power in the industry.

Hence, the collection with its contrasts between softness and power is quite fascinating and generated constant movement on the impressively built suitcase runway. The sartorial soft power of the collection became a showcase of harmonious opposites on the runway. The fashion pieces showcased suppleness of structure, intractable lightness, mastering vibrations, spidery depths and ethereal opulence. It came with razor sharp delicacy, resolute femininity and the mechanics of fluidity.
In addition to these impressively harmonised contrasts, this season also sees pictorial works by the artist, Laurent Grasso on selected pieces. It echoes five paintings from the series entitled Studies into the Past.

Probably the most striking for me were the pleated sheer pants and the movement it brought about, as well as the fan bag, which many on social media have been raving about ever since.

The diagonal lines of many of the Louis Vuitton pieces were also quite striking, as were the delicate, but also bold stripes. Further to this, I also found the structured A-line dresses quite profound, especially with the stunning necklines that emit a sense of power, contrasted by the flowy diagonal lines at the bottom for a touch of softness. Bold knots and structured tassels also featured here and there – beautiful details to some truly stunning pieces.

The musical set of the show comprised of a mix of four titles taken from the new album by Jamie xx, ‘In Waves.’
