Spring collections are hitting stores nationwide as we speak and everyone is excited to adding some freshness to their wardrobes. While I always encourage clever spending when it comes to fashion and keeping your capsule wardrobe in mind, there is always room for a trendy spring-inspired outfit.

H&M’s pre-spring and spring collections

Travellers, spring is here and we get to travel in style with fashion that is fresh, adventurous and creative. H&M’s style destination for spring is Isla Hennes, an island that calls for experimentation. With the new spring range, you’ll be inspired to try something new. It exudes the island’s azure water through its vivid colour palettes. Isla Hennes’ inviting meadows are also portrayed through the collection’s botanical influences, and the island’s art biennale sculptures serve as inspiration for you to style yourself with wild flora and graphic prints. Who said you have to hop on a plane to travel when you can just as well hop into a new outfit?

Did you know?
Isla Hennes is a strip of land in the Mediterranean that is hard to access. It is said to have a mythical landscape with healing rocks that glow at night. It also boasts meadows with extraordinary flora and azure water (which inspired the famous moniker ‘Hennes Blue’).

H&M launched its pre-spring collection in stores on 24 August 2023 (which will also be available online via Superbalist on 31 August). Their official spring collection will be launched in stores on 14 September and online on 21 September. The reason for the two separate launches is to allow each collection’s style stories to be told. The themes are different, showing opportunities for transformation on Isla Hennes.

The pre-spring launch sees modern crafted suiting shine with unexpected details. It comes with neo-folk elements that spotlight embroidery and sculptural silhouettes. 3D expression bursts from selected fashion items like the island’s flowers in bloom, and a remix of stripes (which is undoubtedly a thing this spring) and patterns add frivolity.

The pre-spring collection includes some of the must-have items for spring, like waistcoats, cargo trousers and the decadently detailed balloon sleeve tie-waist top.

The spring launch comes with larger-than-life embroidery, hyper-vibrant prints and tactile crochet. Tink rich purple dresses with petal-like edges, plant-print babydoll dresses, white wrap jackets with cut-out sleeve detail and warm, ochre knit dresses with plunging necklines.

Louis Vuitton GO-14 bag

It’s set to be the most sought-after leather item of the season and it just hit stores nationwide. Louis Vuitton’s GO-14 bag is unique in the Maison’s history of leather goods. It’s a combination of passions: A designer’s inspiration, a trunk-maker’s secrets and an artisan’s ingenuity. The GO-14 is an initiatory bag, one of Nicolas Ghesquière’s first designs. That’s also where the coded name comes from – Ghesquière October 2014 – which is the date on which the design first appeared on the runway for the debut of the Women’s Artistic Director at Louis Vuitton.

Louis Vuitton brown

Today, the bag is a generous, sensual padded lambskin bag, covered in a bouncy, infinitely soft malletage with overstitching highlighting the design’s curves and cushiony feel. It comes in various shades, including black, white and diluted, nuanced, toasted shades perfect for that quiet luxury feel.

It can be worn over the shoulder with its jewel chain as subtle as a necklace, on the arm, or handheld, since the chain can also be doubled. A handle also reaffirms the bag’s position as a pure, sophisticated classic.

Comfy streetwear shoes that will elevate your spring fashion outfit

Chunky footwear is still trending and therefore, it’s a wardrobe essential for spring. For your casual outfits, lug-bulkier sole shoes are perfect for that streetwear edge. UGG has brought numerous comfy boots and slippers into South Africa and they have ow rounded up the best Ashton shoes for you to choose from. The soles are thicker, but the overall style is a classic silhouette you may know and love. The UGG Ahston Hybrid is a combination of a shoe, sneaker and boot, making it an effortless statement shoe with a combat boot-inspired sole and canvas design. It’s sure to elevate your casual outfit this spring.

UGG Ashton Hybrid

The UGG Ashton Shoes collection also includes the UGG Ashton Lace Up and UGG Ashton Chelsea boots, which are both fashion-forward and understated. They are versatile and its waterproof full-grain leather and seam-sealed construction are perfect for the rainy season.

Find them online at Trenton South Africa.

A fashion frenzy at Bloo The Studio

In Pretoria, keep an eye out for Bloo The Studio’s spring range. They’ll be launching a whole new range on 1 September 2023, and according to the owner, Karen, you’re in for a really big surprise! Bloo is based in Menlo Park, Pretoria and has become a favourite to many, especially when it comes to fashion items that are on par with overseas trends. Apart from womenswear, they also have a wide variety of handbags (you’ll find that straw bag that is now trending everywhere on Pinterest, here) and accessories.

I recently threw out a lot of clothes that I don’t wear anymore (as part of my capsule wardrobe journey) and need to stock up on some basics again. These shops are possibly where I’ll start.
