On 6 September 2025, food lovers in search of the ultimate culinary experience in Cape Town are in for an extraordinary evening at the award-winning Eat Out Two-Star beyond Restaurant, located on the historic Buitenverwachting Wine Estate in Constantia. For one night only, South Africa’s Chef of the Year, Johannes Richter, will join forces with acclaimed Chef Sebastian Stehr for a seven-course fine dining experience that celebrates heritage, sustainability and world-class gastronomy.

A Celebration of Heritage Month

The collaboration aligns beautifully with Heritage Month in South Africa, offering diners a taste of indigenous South African ingredients reimagined at the highest culinary level.

“Heritage Month provided the perfect backdrop for this collaboration,” says Stehr. “Chef Johannes’s cooking is such a beautiful representation of KwaZulu-Natal and all it provides, and I’m excited to serve up our interpretation of the Cape alongside his.”

Guests can look forward to a seven-course gourmet menu, designed as a culinary journey across South Africa’s east and west coasts, showcasing the diversity of the country’s produce.

A Shared Commitment to Sustainability

Both Richter and Stehr are renowned for their sustainable cooking philosophies, making this collaboration even more meaningful for those who value ethical dining experiences in Cape Town.

At The LivingRoom in KwaZulu-Natal – recipient of the Eat Out Woolworths Green Star Award 2025 – Richter has pioneered a hyper-sustainable approach that includes:

  • Indigenous, seasonal ingredients and ancient grains
  • Produce sourced from small-scale local farmers within a 100 km radius
  • A minimal-waste kitchen philosophy
  • Fire-based cooking using invasive alien species
  • 100% solar-powered operations
  • A commitment to the well-being of staff and community

Meanwhile, at beyond Restaurant in Constantia, Stehr has cultivated an indigenous garden on Buitenverwachting Wine Estate, allowing the team to harvest unique Cape flora for their menus while protecting local ecosystems.

“It’s always fantastic to cook with someone who shares an ethos or vision. Sebastian and I are certainly on the same page when it comes to both cooking philosophy and sustainability, and I think that’s going to make these dinners really special,” says Richter.

The seven-course menu will be elevated with wine pairings curated by sommeliers Jennifer Hugé and Johanna Richter, ensuring a world-class food and wine pairing experience in Cape Town.
