Did you know that April is National Cannabis Awareness month? Evidently, it’s a good time to shed some light on the healing properties of CBD, don’t you think? With Cannabis having been a miracle herb in traditional healing methods for centuries and having been used and cultivated by mankind for over 6000 years, it makes sense to talk Cannabis in National Cannabis Awareness Month. Here are some interesting facts about Cannabis.

What is CBD?

CBD is a chemical compound from the Cannabis Sativa plant and stands for cannabidiol. While it is an essential component of medical marijuana, CBD is directly derived from the hemp plant which is a cousin of the marijuana plant.

Aren’t there negative effects?

Contrary to what many believe, CBD is entirely free from THC or tetrahydrocannabinol, which means you can enjoy all the health benefits of cannabis without the disadvantage of any psychoactive effects.

How does CBD work?

To understand the role and significance of CBD, you first need to understand the Human Endocannabinoid System’s (ECS) functioning. The ECS can be described as the body’s air traffic control centre. It controls psychological processes, including pain sensation and appetite. The ECS consists of two primary cannabinoid receptors: CB1 receptors (most concentrated in the central nervous system and the brain) and CB2 receptors (abundant in the immunological tissues and modulate cell fate).

The natural cannabinoids and phytonutrients found in CBD communicate with the CB1 and CB2 receptors to provide an effective way to reduce pain, inflammation, depression, stress, anxiety, sleep disorders and much more.

Ground-breaking research into the different forms of CBD led pharmaceutical company, Adcock Ingram to launch the ADCO CBD range of products. It comprises of ADCO CBD STRESS (in drops and capsule format), ADCO CBD DAILY (in drops, edible pastille and capsule format) and ADCO CBD PAIN (in drops, capsule and gel format).

The ADCO CBD edible pastilles come in pre-dosed bites, various colours and an assortment of delectable lemon-lime, mango, raspberry and strawberry flavours.

You can find these products at selected Clicks and Dis-Chem Pharmacies stores, as well as selected independent pharmacies and online shops.
