This November, Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel (Cape Town’s famous Nellie) will host the third annual Confections x Collections (CxC) event. The fusion of fashion and food is perfectly timed to celebrate the hotel’s 125th anniversary. Once again, the Nellie will be the epicenter of African slow fashion, offering a unique fusion of fashion and food.
A Showcase of African Slow Fashion
Curated by Twyg – an independent fashion and sustainability publication – CxC 2024 transforms the Mount Nelson Hotel’s lounge, terrace and gardens into a stylish backdrop for salon-style fashion shows annually. This year, they will bring together some of Africa’s most renowned slow fashion designers. Ultimately, this will offer a platform for authentic African fashion storytelling.
Jackie May, founder of Twyg, says: “As global interest in young African talent continues to rise, I’m thrilled to showcase South Africa’s new wave of designers alongside two of our West African counterparts. CxC is a celebration of excellence in sustainable design and diverse fashion narratives.”

The CxC 2024 Line-Up: Fashion Meets Sustainability
Running from 5 to 9 November 2024, each day will put one designer under the spotlight. Those in attendance can expect an intimate experience where fashion unfolds. This year’s line-up features:
- RICH MNISI – Johannesburg-based designer known for his bold celebration of Tsonga culture.
- Lukhanyo Mdingi – Blending artisanal craft with modern design, Mdingi is an LVMH Prize and Amiri Prize winner.
- Bubu Ogisi of IAMISIGO – Nigerian fibre artist known for her wearable art that highlights ancient African textile techniques.

An Immersive Fashion Experience
Mount Nelson’s proximity to Cape Town’s top designer studios allows for easy access to exclusive fashion experiences. During CxC, collections will be available at AKJP concept store on Kloof Street, and fashion enthusiasts can pre-arrange visits to studios of designers like Lukhanyo Mdingi and Sindiso Khumalo.
Fashion-Inspired Confections
To elevate the experience, guests will enjoy a specially reimagined Afternoon Tea. Created by Executive Sous Chef Vicky Gurovich, this tea will mirror the designers’ creations, pairing each with unique confections inspired by the showcased fashion pieces. The tea experience is complete with a commemorative blend, developed by Mingwei Tsai of Nigiro. This tea blend, celebrating Mount Nelson’s 125th anniversary, highlights local flavors like rooibos, honeybush, and apple, and embodies the spirit of Cape Town.
