MUNKUS, a prominent luxury South African apparel brand, has just clinched the esteemed Trans-seasonal Award at the Twyg Sustainable Fashion Awards. Sponsored by none other than Country Road, this accolade is among the most coveted at the annual event, recognising outstanding design characterised by timelessness and durability. MUNKUS’ meticulous, adaptable and thoughtful designs reflect a commitment to the longevity of their garments, advocating for slower production cycles and slow fashion.
Established in 2019 by Thando Ntuli, MUNKUS has swiftly emerged as a distinctive South African fashion brand located in the heart of Joburg. Drawing inspiration from the influential line of mothers in Thando’s life, the brand has gained instant recognition for its 80s and 90s South African-inspired silhouettes. Each design, marrying innovation with traditional tailoring methods, resonates with contemporary consumers.
With MUNKUS it’s all about “sustainable natural fabrics, ethical manufacturing, recyclable packaging and product care.” The brand envisions a future where sustainable fashion prevails, contributing to the cause by crafting bespoke pieces intended to withstand the test of time; garments that will be passed down through generations.
Of course, this commitment to sustainability also aligns with the event’s sponsor, Country Road’s values, evidenced by their longstanding support for the Twyg Sustainable Fashion Awards. In 2022, the collaboration resulted in presenting the Changemaker Award.
Country Road is a brand that is rooted in sustainable design and ethical practices. They recently unveiled a future-fit store at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront, targeting a 5-Star Green Star interior certification from the Green Building Council of South Africa.
Connie Swartbooi, Head of Marketing at Country Road Group RSA, affirms the brand’s dedication to sustainable design and ethical practices. As sponsor of the Trans-seasonal Award, Country Road celebrates MUNKUS as a deserving winner that aligns with their sustainability ethos.
